MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION TO STUDY FOR A Ph.D. IN BELARUS
To study for a Ph.D. at Belarusian universities, foreign students come from different countries, and these different nationals speak different languages.
Belarus always welcomes foreign students from any country, no matter which language they speak or understand.
There are options for foreign students to study for a Ph.D. in regard to the medium of instruction.
Those foreign students who come from the countries where English is not spoken and understood study in their first year at a preparatory faculty at any university, and upon completion of their preparatory course for the Russian language, they start their Ph.D. .
Those foreign students who come from the countries where English is an official language or well spoken and understood study their Ph.D. directly in English as their medium of instruction.
DURATION OF Ph.D.
A Ph.D. is offered for 4 years for those foreign students who are good at English and prefer to complete their Ph.D. in English as their medium of instruction.
Those foreign students who are not good at English study for their Ph.D. after completing their preparatory program for 10 months, so they study for 10 months and 4 years for their Ph.D.s at Belarusian universities.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED?
Foreign students who have completed their master’s may apply for admission to Ph.D. programs at universities in Belarus.
ADMISSION PROCESS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
The admission process is very simple. All foreign students who want to study for a Ph.D. at different state universities in Belarus scan their secondary school certificate, bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree and send them to the email of admissions staff for assessment.
They should also scan their international passport copy, and all these admission documents should be scanned in a readable format and be quite visible.
Once the admission documents are received by the admissions staff, they start the assessment process, which takes 2 days to be completed.
Once the assessment is done, foreign applicants for Ph.Ds are notified by an email of their admission eligibility.
In case any academic document is missing for eligibility assessment, the admissions staff informs the applicants to scan that document.
Eligible foreign applicants are required to send their admission fee, and after transferring their admission fee, they scan the admission fee slip in the same email to the admissions staff that they used to scan their documents.
WHICH DEPARTMENT ISSUES THE STUDY INVITATIONS?
Those foreign applicants who want to study in Belarus should be aware that official study invitations in Belarus are approved by the migration department no matter which course the applicant wants to study.
In other European countries these admissions are issued by universities and colleges, but in Belarus, the system is quite different.

Botswana nationals love to study for a Ph.D. at Belarusian universities; they always prefer to join a Ph.D. program in English.
Burundi nationals with a master’s degree often join Ph.D. programs at Belarusian state universities.
Cameroonian international students earn their master’s degrees in Belarus or Cameroon, and then they apply for admission to Ph.D. programs at Belarusian state universities.
Cameroonian international students join English-medium Ph.D. programs at Belarusian postgraduate faculties.
Comoros nationals arrive in Belarus every year in small numbers and join Ph.D. programs at one of the Belarusian state universities. They join a Ph.D. in Russian medium after a 10-month language course.
